Getting Started . . . The typical project work flow.
  • 1. We meet face-to-face or over the phone, fax and internet with clients. I'll ask you questions similar to those found at the right-bottom of the "custom design" page. At this early phase, we ask that you fill out our New Home Planning Checklist. Completing this simple form helps to alleviate the possibility of a future miscommunication. See right-hand column.
  • 2. Concept sketches are developed as a result of client input. Free-hand sketches are done on 1/8" scale graph paper. These are semi-accurate, and easy to look at and understand. This format allows them to be easily faxed to the client. About 1/4 to 1/3 of design time–and therefore cost–is at this stage.
  • 3. Computer drafting of your plans will begin once you've approved the concept drawings. This allows us to apply the third dimension, build visual models and render true and accurate perspectives. I stop the 1/4" scale drawings at a "first draft" phase. This draft is complete, but lacks all the finishes, final notes and extensive dimensioning that would make them "final". With these drawings in hand, you can make a final run through, and even order additional sets to begin the process of securing a builder and actual projected construction costs.   • 4. You approve and I begin to finalize your plans. At this point, engineering* can happen simultaneously. Written approval is necessary for us to proceed. This can be done via email or fax. CHANGES MADE AFTER YOUR APPROVAL WILL RESULT IN ADDITIONAL CHARGES. See REVISIONS on Terms page.

    *NOTE: Depending on your state, you may require the services of an engineer or architect for final structural engineering, or assistance in complying with building codes, etc. See GENERAL on Terms page.
